Such an earth-moving tool in a store costs a lot of money, and it does not always meet the requirements for strength, ease of use and performance characteristics. But you can make your own earth drill from scrap materials, for example, from a bicycle drive sprocket and a metal rod. Moreover, this does not require special knowledge and professional skills. Not only any adult, but also a high school student can cope with such work.

The process of making a simple earth drill from a bicycle drive sprocket
From the leading bicycle sprocket, using a grinder, we cut off the connecting rod with the pedal under the base and clean the cutting area until we obtain a circular cylindrical hub.
From a round steel rod with a diameter of 10 mm, we cut a workpiece about 80 cm long and slightly sharpen one end to a partial cone.Using a grinder, cut the star in the center of one of the three spokes from the outer serrated edge to the hub, in the middle of which there is a central hole.
Close to the hub, we make a transverse cut of half of the spoke to the radial cut we made earlier. We install the leading bicycle sprocket on a massive base and bend its part with the trimmed half-spoke at a small angle (25-30 degrees) in relation to the remaining part of the bicycle sprocket.
We sharpen the radial edge of the half-spoke, which was not subject to deformation and remained in the same place, as well as all the teeth of the sprocket, which will make it easier to turn the earth drill when organizing round holes for planting plants or pits when installing posts for fences, canopies or other light structures.
We place the sprocket we have modernized with the central hole in the hub onto a pre-prepared rod from the pointed side to a certain depth and weld it securely, both from below and from above.
You can use this drill manually. To do this, we weld a handle for rotating the tool in the transverse direction onto the upper end of the rod. If you simply clamp the upper part of the rod into the chuck of a drill or screwdriver, then the work of making holes for plants or holes for posts can be completely mechanized.
