Typically, detachable connections of plastic pipes are made using the so-called “American”. This is the conventional name for joining using a union nut. Well, or in more detail, connecting pipes using a fitting, which is a coupling with a union nut. It is reliable and has stood the test of time. But, there are options for joining plastic pipes without the use of “American”. This useful advice will be discussed next.
How to make an “American” pipe with your own hands and a detachable connection for PP pipes
To implement the idea you will need a 2/3 inch fitting. With its help, a thread will be formed on a 25 mm pipe section. A metal washer should be selected to match the inner diameter of the fitting. It will form a correct and even cut when the pipe being connected is heated. The coupling heats up for 1.5-2 minutes on a regular burner of a household gas stove.
The pipe is inserted into the hot coupling until it stops. After slightly cooling the coupling in water, the pipe is carefully unscrewed along the formed thread. The first part of the connection is ready.
For the second part a 20 mm pipe will be used. Its preparation is carried out using a special welding soldering iron for plastic pipes. But the nozzle will be used not at 20 mm, but at a larger size. Because there is no need to heat the outer section of the pipe. All you need to do is form a lip at the end of the pipe. To center it, a 13 mm nut is used in the soldering iron nozzle. After heating, the inner hole of the pipe can be deformed and “fused”. To avoid this, use a drill of a suitable diameter.
The pipe section is heated and, using a union nut, screwed onto the previously used 2/3-inch fitting, only now onto an external thread. As a result of all efforts, an even side should be obtained at the end of the 20 mm pipe section.
Then everything is simple: using a gasket in the form of a rubber ring and a 2/3-inch union nut, the two pipes are connected.
In conclusion, I would like to note that such a connection should not be used in a city apartment. But for the installation of garden water supply, it may well be used.
