Husking corn cobs simply by hand is not a very productive task and takes a lot of effort. By making a corn huller quite simple in design, this work can be significantly speeded up and without getting tiring at all. Any adult can assemble such a device.

Will need

Materials:

  • a piece of old pipe;
  • a piece of thick wooden board;
  • 2 long bolts with nuts;
  • steel plate with holes at the ends;
  • plastic round casing with a central protrusion with a hole, etc.

Tools: tape measure, pencil, grinder, sandpaper, hammer, router, drill, metal ruler, metal square, wrenches, etc.

Process of making household corn huller from old materials

We trim the pipe on both sides with a grinder and make sharp triangular-shaped end teeth at one end, which we correct with sandpaper. We bend the resulting teeth with a hammer inward at the same small angle.

We install the even end of a round pipe with teeth at the other end vertically on the corner of the board, trace its outer perimeter with a pencil and, using a router, cut out a cylinder along the resulting contour.

We use a grinder to cut one side of the cylinder into a small cone and hammer it into the flat end of the pipe flush with a hammer. Drill a hole in the center of this wooden plug using a drill.

We cut off the head of the bolt and hammer its smooth part into the hole in the wooden plug to a certain depth.

Using a metal ruler, we determine and mark the cross-section of the end of the bolt on the outside of the pipe. From this section we mark 2 rectangular longitudinal slots in the diametrical direction and cut them out using a grinder. Smooth the edges with sandpaper.

Using a milling cutter, we cut out a figure in the form of a bearing housing from a thick wooden board, in the center of which we drill a through hole in the longitudinal direction using a drill and a jig, into which we insert the threaded side of the bolt rod.

We put a steel plate on the bolt shaft along one of the two holes at its ends, which we tighten with nuts on both sides. We cut off the part of the rod behind the outer nut with a grinder. Insert a bolt similar to the first into the second hole and also tighten with two nuts.

From old boards and bars using screws we assemble a strong and rigid stand with a stable base.

Using a grinder, we cut off the peripheral part of the cover along with the cylindrical flange from the plastic round casing with a central protrusion with a through hole. We drive the pipe into the hole, hitting the smooth end with a hammer until the teeth completely come out of the hole.

We glue a ring of transparent plastic to the end of the plastic part using superglue.We insert the bolt rod fixed in the pipe into the hole of the wooden support and tighten the nut on the reverse side. Then we put a plate on the rod and also tighten it with a nut.

Insert a bolt with a screwed nut into the second hole of the plate and tighten the second nut from the opposite side. Now, holding the stand with the huller by the base with your feet, we rotate the pipe with teeth at the end, while simultaneously feeding a cob of corn into the huller.

The teeth of the pipe remove the grains, and the core gradually enters the pipe. Having reached the middle of the cob, feed it into the pipe with the other side. The grains fall into a container for collecting them both through the end of the pipe and rectangular slots in it.
