Restoring damaged threads

If a threaded hole in an aluminum part is damaged, it can be repaired with a regular tap, having previously taken measures to ensure that metal shavings do not get inside the mechanism.

To do this, cover it with a piece of cloth and lubricate the tap with oil. We also blow off the chips with compressed air from time to time.

It is necessary to work carefully, since a steel tool is much harder and stronger than an aluminum part. After restoring the thread, screw the spiral insert into the hole until it stops and remove the tool.

The carving has been restored.

How to remove a broken stud

A broken bolt or stud will require more time and effort. Of the many tools we use, we use a core and a hammer. We rest the tip of the core against the uneven surface of the fracture of the bolt or stud and try to rotate the piece counterclockwise with hammer blows.

If there are no suitable breaks, then you can make one or more indentations with a core and use them to unscrew a piece of hardware. This operation will require some patience, some effort and time.

The main thing in this operation is to move the fragment from its place. Further work can go faster even without using a hammer. You can, by catching the tip of the core on one of the irregularities on the periphery of the fracture, rotate the fragment using only your hands.

After the fracture surface appears above the threaded hole, the fragment can be unscrewed with your fingers, lightly pressing on it, and rotating counterclockwise. If your fingers are not strong enough to completely unscrew the fragment, you can use pliers.
