Typically, polypropylene pipes are used to supply cold water and drain sewage. Sometimes, to improve the interior of a room, they are walled up in concrete walls or floors. What to do if such a pipe suddenly leaks, and what should be on hand?

Will need

For the successful work announced above, you should prepare or purchase:
  • hammer drill with drill;
  • chisel and hammer;
  • machine for welding PP pipes;
  • metal scissors;
  • scissors for cutting PP pipes;
  • a piece of PP pipe, a PP blank for a plug, coupling, etc.

Sequencing

There are two possible ways to eliminate a leak immured in a concrete block of a propylene pipe (PP): “spot”, when the leak site is welded directly, and “linear”, which involves cutting out the damaged section of the pipe and replacing it with a new one.

"Point" technology

We localize as much as possible the location of the leak, the walled-up PP pipe and, using a hammer drill with a drill, we get to the damaged communication.
To make it more convenient and safer to work, use a concrete chisel and a hammer to widen and level the edges of the approach to the leaking pipe.

Using a hammer drill and a drill, we drill out the damaged section of the pipe with a drill with a diameter of 8 mm and remove the resulting chips from it.

We notice the plug so as not to push it further than necessary.

A special nozzle will be required.

We heat the PP blank for the plug and the hole in the pipe using a machine for welding polypropylene pipes. Then, without delay, weld the hole and let the welding cool.

After the welding site has completely hardened, we cut off the excess plug with a mounting knife or metal scissors. The tightness of the PP pipe has been completely restored.

Now all that remains is to carefully seal the site of destruction of the concrete mass with cement mortar.

"Linear" technology

Having reached the PP pipe, we cut off the damaged section of the communication using any available method and place wooden blocks transversely under the ends of the pipes for ease of work.
Using a welding machine, we heat one end of the polypropylene pipe and a coupling of suitable diameter, and after they are heated to the point of fluidity, we connect them and hold them until they harden completely.

Using a thermal device, heat the free end of the coupling and a piece of the new pipe slightly longer than the cut one. We also connect them (weld) and hold them motionless until they harden completely.

Then we place the end of the pipe with the extended piece into the recess and, with a marker, make a mark on the new section, almost reaching the second end of the communication.

Using scissors for cutting plastic pipes, we make a cut according to the mark. We heat the end of the new insert and coupling with a welding machine, then connect them and leave them until they set completely.

We perform heat treatment of the free end of the coupling and the second end of the pipe. We connect them by first removing the holding wooden blocks and recessing the connection into the depth of the groove.
