Juicer from an old meat grinder

Many people have old manual meat grinders lying around their forge - it’s a shame to throw them away, but there’s no point in using them. There are several options for “modernizing” it; you don’t have to throw it away; the old thing can still be useful. We suggest one of them is to make a juicer out of it.

What you need to have

In addition to the meat grinder itself, you need to prepare a drill and a tap for cutting M12 threads, a sleeve with the same thread and an ordinary self-tapping screw for fixing the meat grinder to the surface. If the sleeve has an M12×1 thread, then the drill diameter should be in the range of 10.95–11.0 mm; if the tap cuts threads with a pitch of 1.25, then a drill with a diameter of 10.7–10.75 mm is needed. The hole is drilled with a drill, the tap is fixed in a special holder.

Manufacturing instructions

Disassemble the meat grinder: unscrew the large nut, remove the sieve, knife and feed auger. Remove the handle.

Use a marker to mark the hole at the bottom. If it is approximately 10 mm in diameter, then it is necessary to retreat approximately 8 mm from the beginning of the thread. The distance is adjusted taking into account the size of the bushing; it should not create problems when tightening the nut when assembling the meat grinder. We provide approximate parameters, select the exact ones yourself depending on the characteristics of the parts.

In the lower part of the meat grinder body, drill a hole for the thread for the juice outlet sleeve. The body is round, the drill keeps slipping, be sure to tap the center of the hole well. Use a tap to cut the thread to the appropriate diameter. Work slowly, make reciprocating/forwarding movements, use lubricant. If it is not there, then you can take any edible oil or lard.

Assemble the meat grinder: insert the auger, knife and sieve into the body, tighten the nut. Insert the sieve with the reverse side - the knife will not cut the fruit, the compression force will increase, and accordingly, more juice will be squeezed out.

Screw a threaded sleeve into the hole to drain the juice. Make sure that its end does not touch the auger; leave a gap of at least 2–3 mm.

How to squeeze juice?

Completely unscrew the factory bolt that secures the legs to the table.

Place the device on the edge of the table and secure it firmly with a self-tapping screw.

The hardware heads have a small diameter and fall into the hole in the leg. Use a large-diameter washer; it fits well with special hardware for fastening metal roofing.
Peel the orange.

Place a container under the sleeve hole to collect the juice. Divide the orange into slices.
Hold the meat grinder by the throat with one hand and press on the orange slices, and with the other, rotate the handle. Soon the juice will start dripping into the glass.

To prevent the pulp coming out through the sieve from contaminating the table, ask an assistant to hold the bowl near it. The same method can be used to obtain juice from apples or other fruits and vegetables.

Still, fastening a meat grinder with a clamp is more reliable than with one self-tapping screw.

An interesting option, but not convenient and suitable only for a small amount of drink.

I didn't know there was a downside to the sieve.

Isn't it easier to buy a ready-made juicer? They are still sold based on a meat grinder, only they have a longer screw and a mesh. Tomato juice is the best way to squeeze it out!
