Upholstery on furniture tends to wear out and fade. It is not always possible to remove dirt from fabric, especially if this furniture is used in the kitchen. There is a simple solution: replacing the upholstery.

Materials and tools:

  • upholstery fabric – cut 1.30 x 1.50 m;
  • lining fabric or interlining for the wrong side - cut 1x1 m;
  • pliers;
  • Phillips screwdriver;
  • straight screwdriver;
  • furniture stapler;
  • scissors;
  • stationery knife;
  • hammer.

The process of replacing the upholstery of an old chair:

1. Unscrew the screws that secure the chair seat to the metal frame.

2. Remove the lining and old upholstery from the seat. The chairs have a “non-original” covering; they have already undergone this procedure once. To reupholster, you need to remove the top layer of fabric and remove the old staples.

3. Cut out new upholstery from the old one. Leave an allowance of 0.5-10 mm so that there is enough room for hemming. If you do not plan to make a lining on the reverse side, zigzag or fold the edge.

4. Place the seat on the cut so that the allowances are distributed evenly.Fold the edge of the material and attach it with a stapler on one side and on the opposite side so that it does not slip.

5. When you reach the corner, cut off the excess fabric so that it is not rough. Fold the edge over and staple it to the seat. To ensure that the staples fit tightly to the base, tap them with a hammer.

6. Cut a square from the lining or non-woven fabric in size equal to the size of the seat. Attach it so as to hide the edges.

You can leave it this way if the edges of the upholstery are processed and the reverse side looks neat.

Or upholstery with lining.

7. Screw the seat to the frame. To avoid falling into the same hole, you will need to move the frame and seat a little and use new screws, slightly longer than the previous ones. If you can’t move it, then try to tighten the screws, placing them at a slight angle to the base (tighten them diagonally, not perpendicularly). Otherwise, the seat will not hold firmly to the frame.

New chairs are ready for use.
