Will need
In addition to the chainsaw, we should prepare or purchase:
- a piece of steel pipe;
- crosscut saw blade;
- bolts, washers and nuts;
- steel angle and rod;
- two wheels from a garden wheelbarrow;
- thin-walled tubes;
- a piece of tin (or plastic).
The tools you will need are welding, a grinder, metal (plastic) scissors, a hammer and wrenches.
Mower manufacturing process
We slightly modernize the drive sprocket from the chainsaw.
Use a grinder to cut the rivets and remove the protective side disc cover.
After this, we install it with the teeth inside a steel pipe with an outer diameter of 50 mm and weld it securely.
From the opposite end of the pipe, we weld “ears” from a steel strip from the outside in diametrically opposite directions. We carefully clean the welds and grind them with a grinder.
Using a grinder, we cut out a strip of the calculated dimensions from the blade of an old cross-cut saw.
We drill two mounting holes symmetrically to the center and one at the edges for bolting to the central strip of knives, which can rotate freely around the bolts.
The base of the frame in the form of a square is made from a steel corner. We weld downward-pointing brackets to its two opposite sides, and to them - pieces of steel rods with threads cut at the ends. These are the wheel axles.
We weld to the two remaining sides of the frame, on one side, “horns” directed upwards, for mounting tubular handles, and on the inside, a small subframe with holes for mounting the engine and units from the Ural chainsaw.
In front of the frame, we vertically install two arc-limiters (guides) directed with a bend forward and fasten them to the frame by welding. We put rubber wheels on the axles and secure them with nuts and washers.
We place the drive on the frame and secure it to the base using bolts, washers and nuts. We close the “windows” in the frame on the sides of the engine with patterns made of tin or plastic and secure them to the frame with hardware.
We attach the cutting body (the central strip and the knives loosely attached at the ends) with bolts and nuts to the “ears” of the tube, which transmits rotation from the engine to the knives.
We put tubular handles on the “horns”, which are connected at the top by a crossbar for rigidity, and slightly bent downwards for ease of control. The throttle control on the engine is routed to the right handle using a cable.
We start the engine and begin the work for which the homemade product was assembled - mowing “wild” grass.
