When going on vacation to the forest, especially with long walks, it is very important to take light equipment with you. One of its components can be a homemade folding mini grill made from a grate from an old oven. It is designed for high temperatures, so the grill made from it is reliable and durable. In most cases, the grates are made of food grade steel, which is also important.

Materials:

  • old oven grate;
  • nuts M10 – 2 pcs.;
  • rod 8 mm;
  • thin sheet metal or tin;
  • M3 screws with nuts – 4 pcs.

The process of making a camping mini barbecue

Using a metal brush, you need to clean the grate from carbon deposits and adhering fat. After this, it is cut in half.

It is important that both parts have the same number of whole cells, so the protruding metal on one of the halves must be cut off.

Then the parts of the lattice need to be connected with loops. To do this, 2 M10 nuts are cut lengthwise on one side.

They need to be slightly bent with a chisel, put on the gratings and bent back with a hammer.

Thanks to this, the grille will be able to fold like a book, and its bars along the contour will rest against each other, so it will not be able to open more than 180 degrees.

Grill legs 10 cm long are cut from an 8 mm rod. On one side they are sharpened into a cone, and on the other, a plane must be made using a file or grinder. To do this, 10 mm from the edge of the rods are ground down to half their thickness.

Holes for M3 screws are drilled in the machined planes.

Then 4 strips are cut out of thin sheet steel, and clamps are bent from them to match the diameter of the grille rods. Holes are drilled in the clamps.

The clamps are installed at the corners of the grille and the legs are screwed to them using screws. It is important to bend the clamps so that they can turn on the grill with difficulty. If the legs fold and unfold easily, then they should be removed and the clamps slightly narrowed with pliers.

To use the grill, you need to light a fire and when it burns out, place a grate over the coals. This homemade product has many advantages: it is lightweight, takes up little space, and it cools down quickly after use, so you can immediately put it in a bag without fear of it melting. Since the grill is made from an oven grate, the mesh bars will not warp or bend from heat after a couple of uses.
