Garden pond construction process
Since the decorative pond has a small area and depth, a pit for it can be dug by hand in literally half an hour. It is advisable to make it irregularly shaped so that it looks like a natural body of water. The bottom is made uneven, deeper in the middle. All excavated soil should be removed. It can be used to level an area where it is required, or to build an alpine slide.
A polyethylene film is placed at the bottom of the pit. If the pond turns out to be wide, then it is better to take the film in sleeves in order to cut it lengthwise and get a large canvas. This will be much more convenient than soldering several pieces with an iron.
Next, the concrete is prepared. You can buy dry screed mix in bags or mix it using sand, cement, water and fiberglass. Concrete is applied to the bottom in a layer of about 20-30 mm, then a reinforcing mesh is laid on it. Next, a second layer of concrete of at least 1 cm is laid down.
Starting from the middle, you need to imitate stones at the bottom of the reservoir. It is convenient to do this simply by hand. To prevent cement from corroding your skin, you should wear rubber gloves. To imitate stone, you need to take a lump of thick concrete, place it on the screed and smooth it out, giving it the shape of a stone. A finger's width of seam is left between the stones.
Imitation of stones is also done on the sides of the pit. A plaster mesh must also be laid on them. If the concrete begins to dry out, it can be moistened with a spray bottle. The sides are raised slightly so that the pond does not fill with dirty rainwater.
Cobblestones are laid along the perimeter of the concrete pit. The concrete is moistened daily so that the cement sets properly and does not form cracks. Then after a few days the pond can be filled with water.
To prevent the water in the pond from stagnating, you will need to lower a powerful submersible aquarium filter or pump into it.
Wires can be hidden with stones. To purify water in a pond, you will need to plant aquatic plants in pots. The bioplato will prevent algal blooms. Enough plants and mixing the water will eliminate the need for chemicals.
