For fishing and picnics, you can make an ax-hammer from a rail. If you equip it with a handle made of an aluminum profile pipe, then you can also store various small things in it, such as fishing line with hooks, a tripod for a pot, matches or even a small knife.

Materials:

  • rail;
  • steel profile pipe;
  • aluminum profile pipe;
  • plastic plug.

Ax making process

You need to cut a piece 35-40 mm wide from the rail. In order for everything to turn out as smooth as possible, you should first apply markings. You need to cut the rail with a large grinder with a 230 mm wheel; it will be difficult to get by with a smaller one.

It is necessary to form a hammer head on the head of the cut piece of rail. To do this, it narrows and shortens. In principle, you don’t have to shorten it, but then the instrument will turn out to be too heavy for a marching instrument.

A longitudinal line is drawn along the center of the cut rail base. Along it you need to cut the sole from the sides obliquely to form the slopes of the ax.To do this, it is important to securely fasten the workpiece in a vice and try to strictly maintain the given angle. If after cutting the slopes turn out to be asymmetrical, then they can be finished using sandpaper.

Next, you need to find the center of gravity of the workpiece in order to weld the mount under the handle in this place. You need to weld a small piece of thick-walled profile pipe.

It is necessary to cook both the outside of the pipe and the inside.

The outer seam is cleaned after welding. You also need to use a grinder to remove the chamfers on the edges of the tool. In order to completely finish the metalworking, you should also sharpen the blade before installing the handle.

Next, you can make a wooden ax and hammer it inside the pipe. However, it is better to choose an aluminum profile pipe and place it on top of the metal pipe using epoxy glue. A handle from an old aluminum hockey stick is perfect for this purpose.

In the place where your hand grips, you can wrap a self-adhesive door seal on the ax handle in wide increments. On top of it, the handle is wrapped with reinforced tape or cotton tape.

If the ax handle is made of a tube, then you can put 3 electrodes and a large nut in it, then close the handle with a plastic plug.

On a hike, electrodes with a nut can be used as a tripod under a pot. A homemade universal hatchet is useful for preparing firewood for a fire; it can also be used to hammer nails, which may be needed when making a raft, repairing a bridge over a stream, etc.

    This blade shape will not allow for many sharpenings. But it looks interesting.

    When you have nothing else to do, cut the rail.
