Often, when repairing a car in a garage or disassembling household appliances, it is necessary to remove the bearing from the shaft or remove it from the seat. This can be done with an expensive factory puller or using a homemade analogue assembled from hardware.

Will need

  • A long bolt with a transverse hole in the rod under the head;
  • nut with a through transverse hole;
  • bolts, studs and nuts of different sizes;
  • mechanical emery;
  • gas-burner;
  • open-end wrenches;
  • welding;
  • drilling machine;
  • metal file, etc.

Manufacturing process of a simple puller

Grind the end of a long bolt with a hole under the head into a cone using sandpaper.

Heat the cone with a gas burner until it turns bright red, avoiding any black or blue spots, and then quickly cool it in water.

We screw the nut onto the bolt until its hole aligns with the hole in the bolt and insert a bolt with a round head into them, screwing two nuts onto the threads for mutual locking.

We weld two bolts radially to the large nut with their heads facing outward, which we cut off.

We weld nuts vertically to two studs of equal length at the ends, drill out the threads of them, and shorten the studs to size.

Stepping back slightly from the ends of the studs, we make vertical cuts to the depth of the radius and, starting higher along the rods, cut out flat cuts from the surface to the vertical cuts.

We finish the notches with a hand file.

We screw a nut with welded bolt rods onto the rod with a cone.

We put drilled nuts with welded studs on these rods and secure them with bolts. Our puller is ready to go.

To do this, we rest the cone of the bolt against the end of the shaft with the bearing, place the grips under the bearing ring and rotate the knob of the power bolt to the right.

After a few revolutions, performed with light force, the bearing will come off the seating belt on the shaft.

    Not a bad idea, but the metal is weak.
