When feeding chickens, a lot of grain or feed is trampled into the ground, so to minimize feed loss, various feeders are used. There are many designs, from very simple to complex, expensive to manufacture. We offer a method for making cheap, convenient smelt from a PET bottle.
Materials for chicken feeder:
- Identical PET bottles 5-6 l – 2 pcs.;
- stand for flower pots;
- wire;
- Furniture handle;
- flat plate.
The process of making a simple poultry feeder
Assembling the feeder should begin with making a stand for the bottle. You can use a stand for flower pots or weld it yourself from reinforcement and strip. The height of the stand should be 35-40 cm.
The bottom of one bottle is cut off as low as possible. The second one should be cut off, capturing part of the walls. A high bottom is needed to get a lid for the hopper.
For ease of opening, a furniture handle is installed in it.
Next you need to drill a wide shallow plate in the center and a bottle cap. They are screwed together with a bolt.
The bottle with a lid needs to have several windows cut to allow the food to pour out below the neck. That's it, the hopper is ready, now you can screw it into the lid on the plate.
All that remains is to screw 2 wire stretchers to the ring of the stand to hold the inverted bottle suspended.
You immediately need to calculate everything so that the plate is at a comfortable height for the chickens.
The hopper is installed on a stand and filled with feed. Now the chickens can eat from the plate, and as they eat, its level will be replenished. Since the plate is covered, the chickens will not be able to scoop up the feed, which will reduce feed losses.
