When attempting to weld with a conventional electrode, thin-walled metal is burned through. Many welders do not work at all with workpieces whose thickness is less than 2 mm, let alone 1 mm or 0.5 mm. But even such thin metal can be welded, it just requires a special electrode.

What you will need:

  • AA battery, always salt;
  • side cutters;
  • emery machine.

Process of making graphite electrode and its use for welding

To make a special electrode, you will need a AA battery. You need to cut its shell with side cutters and remove the graphite rod hidden inside. It is better to do all this with gloves, since the contents of the battery are far from healthy for the skin.

The tip of the rod needs to be sanded to make it easier to cook.

It is then installed into the welding clamp in place of a conventional electrode. The welding current is set within 10-15 Amps.

The graphite electrode melts the metal, causing it to boil.To weld a hole with it, for example, simply apply an additional steel rod or wire to the tip of the electrode when heating the workpiece. Then the molten metal will spread and cover it.

When it is necessary to connect 2 workpieces, welding is performed similarly to using a conventional electrode with coating. The best result will be if you cook it spot by preparing perforations on the top part.

Such welding cannot be torn off.

The graphite electrode is especially good for welding twisted wires. We simply twist the wires, attach a mass to them, and touch the rod to the tip of the wires. They will be cooked in just moments.

This twist will no longer oxidize, so the contact will be perfect.
