Sometimes at home, in the country, or even in production, there is an urgent need for a strong and reliable connection of two profile square pipes in the absence of welding equipment. This is quite possible to do, and even a non-specialist can cope with such an operation.
Will need
Materials and tools:
- two pieces of profile square pipes;
- 2 sets of screw-nut assembly;
- measuring and marking tools;
- angle grinder;
- bench vice;
- screwdriver, open-end wrench, etc.
The process of joining two identical profile square pipes without welding
We set aside 6 cm from the end of one of the pipes and mark the cross section on the outer sides. Along the corner lines of convergence of adjacent sides, we draw parallel straight lines on both sides in close proximity.
We clamp the marked pipe in a vice and, using a grinder, make cuts from the end to the marked cross-section along all eight straight lines drawn. We trim the cut out corner fragments along the marked cross section and remove them.

On the remaining four petals we get rid of sharp edges and burrs. Lightly compress the petals towards the center of the pipe and place a second profile square pipe on their ends, trying to push it along the petals first with your hands and then by hitting the free end of the pushed square pipe with a hammer. We continue to advance until the end of the pipe being inserted reaches the marked cross-section and covers all the slots.
From the line of convergence of the ends of the pipes on the pipe being mounted, we mark the centers of two through holes at a distance of 2 and 4 cm, respectively, which we make using a drill.
We insert screws into the holes formed and screw nuts onto them, which we tighten using a hand-held Phillips screwdriver and an open-end wrench.
The resulting connection is in no way inferior to a permanent connection by welding in terms of accuracy and strength.
