I’ll tell you how easy and inexpensive it is to sew shorts for a boy with your own hands. All we need is an old, out-of-use skirt or trousers from an adult, chalk, scissors, a piece of paper for a pattern, a needle and thread, an elastic band - an elastic band. In my example, a one-year-old boy was dressed; size 48 jeans were used as material.

So, the first thing we need to do is make a pattern. Here we will not take any measurements of the child, especially since at this age this is quite problematic. I took the boy's trousers that he is currently wearing, and they fit him well. I turned these trousers inside out so that one half was formed, placed them on a piece of paper and traced them.

let's make a pattern

Then, directly on the pattern, you will need to add 1.5-2 cm on top for the waistband and the same length on the bottom for the hem. You determine the length of the trousers yourself, I chose - just below the knee, a sort of breeches. There is no need to make allowances for the side seams, since we are tracing the trousers with seams.

The pattern should have two parts of the product - front and back. Please note that they are different. The back part turns out to be slightly longer and deeper than the front. To get both parts, you need to lay out the trousers on paper, first with the front and then with the back.

Cut out the resulting patterns. The next step is to transfer the drawing onto the fabric. You should end up with four parts: two front and two rear. In my case, I moved the front and back pattern pieces to the edge of the jeans to create a finished side seam. Thus, I have two parts.

All that remains is to sew the resulting blanks. Owners of a sewing machine will complete this task easily and quickly. I, in the absence of it, had to work hard. First you need to make the back and front seam, and then the step seam, that is, the inner one. I used a needle stitch. In this case, the stitches are made at a distance from each other, and the beginning of the next stitch is after the previous one.

On the resulting shorts, we make a hem at the bottom and a waistband, and insert an elastic band. It would be a good idea to overcast the sewn edges. I did this by hand using an overlock stitch.

The shorts are ready! Now, having a pattern, you can design shorts of different lengths, and even trousers. After all, there can never be too many of these outfits in a child’s wardrobe.

Thanks for the idea and for the master class! I wish they could post a photo of the finished product. It looks somehow unfinished!

Please tell me, why do we cut out 2 parts of one half (for example, the front one) at once, if their side seam is already stitched?? After all, if you cut them out and lay them out, then 1 front half is in front, and the second front half is in the back?? those. on the left leg there are 2 front halves, on the right - 2 back halves... I’ve already broken my head...

One pant leg is cut out at once, but the front and back are cut out separately

Everything is correct in this MK, it’s just that the parts are facing up, and the photo shows that the seamstress cuts out the parts separately.
