In order for the chisel to cut into the material, it must be sharpened very well, almost to a razor sharpness. This can only be achieved manually without changing the angle when the cutting edge moves on the sharpening stone. A homemade conductor will help with this.

Materials:

  • Strip 20 mm;
  • M8 bolts – 4 pcs.;
  • M8 wing nuts – 2 pcs.;
  • M8 washers – 4 pcs.;
  • bearings 30 mm.

Conductor manufacturing process

A U-shaped bracket bent from a strip will serve as the base of the conductor. When bending it, you must strictly adhere to right angles and symmetry.

4 holes are drilled in the bracket, as in the photo. Then its edges are ground.

The holes are threaded.

A blank is cut from the strip to be pressed to the bracket. It also needs to be drilled. Then the parts are painted. Bolts are screwed into the central holes of the bracket, onto which the clamp is placed and secured with wing nuts. Bolts threaded through the bearings are screwed into the outer holes.

Next, we take a plywood base and mill a recess into it for the whetstone.

It fits into the groove.

Now you can clamp the chisel in the jig and roll the mechanism with a reciprocating motion.

The edge of the chisel will be sharpened strictly at one angle. The latter is adjusted by changing the projection of the chisel from the holder. That is, we first adjust the angle relative to the grindstone, and then clamp the tool. After this you can sharpen it.
