It would seem that a hammer is a simple, ingenuous tool, but it also has its secrets. There are actually a lot of little tricks to working with it. Knowing about them will make you love the hammer even more.

1. Support slats in the canopy

If you need to nail a long strip or piece of wood horizontally, a hammer will help to support the far edge. First we hammer in a temporary nail and attach a hammer and chisel to it. Thanks to the characteristic tilt, he will be able to press the bar.

Now you can comfortably nail down what you need with the second hammer. After this, the first hammer is removed and the temporary nail is pulled out.

2. Cutting the striker for nails

By making a simple cut in the hammer, you can fix the nails in it. This will allow you to score them without using your second hand. To do this, drill a shallow blind hole in the front of the hammer for a small neodymium magnet -

Next, a cross-shaped slot is made with a grinder. Its width should correspond to the cross-section of the nails you usually work with.

A neodymium magnet is inserted into the hole. Now they can grab nails. While they are fixed, we strike, driving them in. Next, we finish it off with a striker as usual.

3. Correct bend of the nail

The nail coming out from the back side of the workpiece, before hammering it to the side, should be bent in an arc using a nail puller. Only after this we finish him off with a striker. This way the tip will go deeper into the wood and will not stick out.

4. Hidden in a hammer

Drill the hammer handle from the end with a 10 mm drill bit. Then use a cutter to make a plug for it. You can hide a bill in this hole for a rainy day, which no one will ever find.

To prevent the plug from being noticeable, just cut it off and screw a neodymium magnet onto it. It will come in handy to hold the carnations.

5. Sharpening a knife with a hammer

If you don’t have anything to sharpen a knife with, a hammer and claw puller will help. We place the blade between it and pull it towards us. A hammer sharpens worse than a stone, but it's better than nothing.
