Almost everyone who damages a polypropylene pipe solves the problem by replacing it. Usually they simply cut out the area with the hole or crack, and then solder a piece of new tube using couplings. This is a good method, but not always possible in hard-to-reach places. There are much simpler and faster methods.

1. Overlay repair

For such repairs, you need to attach two tubes cut along the length of the tube to the soldering iron instead of the usual attachments. One turns outward with the curved side, and the second with the concave side.

Then we take a piece of PP pipe 30-50 mm long and cut it lengthwise. Now we lean the soldering iron on the damaged part of the pipeline with a concave nozzle, and apply this homemade pad to the curved one.

We wait a couple of seconds until the polypropylene begins to melt, and then we glue the pad over the damage.

For reliability, we can also put a clamp on top. That's it, there will never be a leak in this place again.

2. Repair the hole with a plug

Sometimes when drilling, a water pipe hidden in the wall is damaged. In this case, you can seal this hole with a simple plug. To do this, you will need a special repair rod for PP, or a regular strip cut from a pipe.

For repairs, instead of a nozzle, we attach a pin to the soldering iron, the diameter of which is slightly larger than the existing hole. We insert it into the damage and heat its walls. At the same time, heat the rod in the hole of the soldering iron.

Now insert the hot rod into the hole in the pipe. It is important not to drive it deep so as not to block the passage. We wait for the polypropylene to harden and carefully cut the cork.

3. Self-tapping screw repair

A small hole in the pipe can be sealed by screwing in a self-tapping screw with a wound tape.

After this, coat the joint with epoxy resin. Until it sets, we put an elastic band on top and press it with a clamp. It also turns out to be very reliable.
